Be ready to listen.
Jihyul brought interviewing skills from journalism class into a real conversation with an event participant.
FIELD NOTE 01 /
A helping hand.
A thoughtful question.
A new connection.
At our first kimchi community event, Jihyul volunteered—and used the interview skills he had learned in journalism class to speak with a participant.

LEARNING TO GIVE, IN PRACTICE
배워서 남주자.
함께하며 배우고, 배운 것을 나누다.
On October 31, 2026, we joined the first edition of a community kimchi-making event with the Okinawa Korean Association, at Okinawa Korean Church.
It was a busy first day. Jihyul helped at the food tables and gave his best alongside the other volunteers. He also interviewed a participant, putting skills he had learned in journalism class into practice.
Learning to give also means learning to listen. A shared task and a thoughtful question can make room for a new conversation. For ALL TO GIVE, this was a small, real expression of “learn so we can give.”
We hope to keep building understanding among Japanese neighbors, Korean community members and military-connected families—by showing up, listening and contributing regularly.
ONE DAY, TWO PERSPECTIVES
Food to share. Hands ready to help. Our first film captures the many people and small acts that brought the day to life.
